Decades of increased funding on police and prisons has fueled racism and failed to curb violence. We therefore demand:
- Shift funds currently spent on police to housing, education and jobs programs that actually make communities safer from violence and promote healthy lives.
- No more police in our schools. Fund nurses, counselors and other social service professionals who keep our youth safe.
- End the war on drugs and spend that money on robust treatment programs instead.
- End wealth-based imprisonment – end cash bail.
- Arrest, indict, prosecute, and convict police who murder, assault, and torture. Fire without compensation police who are responsible for racist violence. Those who cover up the crimes of their fellow officers and express blatant bigotry must be fired as well. Void police contracts that help cover-up criminal conduct by the police.
- Justice for police torture victims and justice for victims of police brutality, including those still imprisoned.
- End mass incarceration which has targeted Black, Brown and Indigenous people. Free those in jails and prisons as they are vectors of the pandemic.
- End the racist and classist death penalty.
- Massive economic reparations to predominately Black, Brown and Native American communities who’ve borne the brunt of the pandemic and preceding decades of disinvestment.
- Permanently stop deportations, close the detention centers and end family separations.
